The Best Revenge Movies on Netflix [July 2019]

They say that nothing tastes sweeter than revenge, but the reality is that it often makes both parties lose everything. Revenge movies are full of drama, action, and anticipation, which is why they keep us glued to our seats. Seeking revenge has a lot of consequences, and even though most of us want revenge at some point, we prefer to sit back and see others battle injustice and the wrongdoers who deserve to meet their ends. Here’s a list of the best revenge movies on Netflix for you to watch.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)

Based on the bestselling book of the same title, this is a movie with a lot of violence and scenes that are not for everyone. It follows the book very accurately, so those who have read it already know that it’s packed with gore and bloody scenes of revenge.

The book was inspired by an event that happened to the writer when he was 15. He watched as three gang members raped a girl he knew called Lisbeth. He felt guilty for years and later asked her to forgive him for not doing anything to help her, but she didn’t want to do it.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Many years later, he wrote “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” and named the girl in the book Lisbeth, same as the girl he grew up with. The movie adaptation was released in 2011. It follows the story of Mikael Blomkvist, played by Daniel Craig, who is investigating the disappearance of a rich man’s niece that has been missing for 40 years. On his journey, he meets Lisbeth Salander, a hacker who helps him expose a massive corruption scandal.

Just like the Lisbeth the writer knew, the character named after her was also raped, and we can watch her as she finds the person responsible and tortures him in the most brutal and cruel ways you can think of while recording everything with a camera. This psychological thriller is one of the best revenge movies you can watch on Netflix.

Kill Bill Vol. 1 (2003)

Kill Bill is one of the most famous revenge movies directed by Quentin Tarantino. His films are known as very gory and often sickening because of some scenes that leave the viewers shocked. The movie follows the Bride, played by Uma Thurman, a highly-skilled assassin who was betrayed and put in a coma by her former team of Deadly Viper Assassination Squad.

The assassins killed her daughter, so she vows to find all of them and end their lives. She wants to find Bill, who is the leader of the squad and her ex-lover. The movie has a few fight scenes filled with gore and swordfights that already enjoy a legendary status, but it’s definitely not for the faint of heart.

Inglourious Basterds (2009)

Another bloody revenge movie directed by Quentin Tarantino, Inglourious Basterds is a true masterpiece with dark comedy elements that was a huge hit when it was released.

The movie was written by Tarantino himself, and it takes place in Germany during WW2. It follows a team of U.S. soldiers of Jewish origins who live behind enemy lines, hunting Nazi officers and killing them on the spot. The entire army fears them because they have already killed hundreds of Nazis on their revenge quest. The German soldiers call them “the Bastards,” as they are known for taking claps of every soldier they kill.
